On 7 August 2026, Sergey Sadovoy appeared as a guest artist at the 12th edition of the Auer Festival, the international classical music festival in Veszprém, Hungary, dedicated to the legacy of the great violinist and pedagogue Leopold Auer (1845–1930), who was born in Veszprém.
Over the years, the festival has welcomed an exceptional range of internationally renowned musicians, including Gidon Kremer, Maxim Vengerov, Steven Isserlis, Vadim Repin, Mischa Maisky, Peter Frankl, Tamás Vásáry, the Borodin Quartet, Zoltán Kocsis, Richard Galliano and many others.
The 2026 edition brought together another distinguished group of artists. Among the musicians appearing at the festival that year were violinists Sergey Malov and Valeriy Sokolov, as well as French pianist David Fray.
Sadovoy gave a full-length solo recital in two parts at the historic Megyeháza in the centre of Veszprém. The concert was sold out and presented a wide-ranging programme spanning Baroque repertoire, major works of the 20th century and original music for the accordion.
The first half opened with four sonatas by Domenico Scarlatti — K.475 in E-flat major, K.1 in D minor, K.213 in D minor and K.107 in F major — followed by an accordion transcription of Antonio Vivaldi’s “Winter” from The Four Seasons.
The programme then continued with three Preludes and Fugues from Johann Sebastian Bach’s The Well-Tempered Clavier: D major, BWV 850; G-sharp minor, BWV 887; and C minor, BWV 847. The first part concluded with Bach’s monumental Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565.
The second half began with the Sinfonia from Bach’s Partita No. 2 in C minor, BWV 826, before turning to the modern accordion repertoire with Vyacheslav Semionov’s Sonata No. 1. This was followed by Astor Piazzolla’s Ave Maria, Semionov’s Caprice No. 1, and Vladimir Zubitsky’s Perpetuum Mobile, which brought the recital to its conclusion.
The appearance in Veszprém marked Sadovoy’s debut at the Auer Festival and formed part of the festival’s week-long programme of concerts celebrating both the musical heritage associated with Leopold Auer and the continuing vitality of the international classical music tradition.
